The Green Bay Packers kicked off the 2017 season with a 17-9 win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Ty Montgomery ran for a touchdown and Aaron Rodgers threw another, and the Packers defense held the Seahawks to just 225 total yards in a strong overall effort against one of the NFC’s best teams.

Here’s a recap of the Week 1 action from Lambeau Field:

GAME: Packers win, 17-9

The Packers will start the season 1-0 after holding on to beat a talented Seahawks team at Lambeau Field. The defense was impressive, holding Russell Wilson to only 158 passing yards and keeping the Seahawks out of the end zone. Aaron Rodgers had a bumpy afternoon, but his 32-yard touchdown to Jordy Nelson on a free play helped the Packers pull away in the second half. Green Bay is 1-0, with a trip to Atlanta to play the defending NFC champs looming next Sunday night.

SCORING PLAY: Another Walsh field goal

Seattle struck back quick, going 52 yards in less than 90 seconds to get it back to a one-possession game. Blair Walsh connected on his third field goal after Morgan Burnett broke up Russell Wilson’s third down pass. Packers 17, Seahawks 9

SCORING PLAY: Long drive milks clock, extends lead

A 12-play, 53-yard drive took off nearly six minutes of the fourth quarter block and ended with a Mason Crosby field goal, extending the Packers lead. Green Bay is now eight minutes away from a 1-0 start. But don’t expect Russell Wilson to go down quietly. Packers 17, Seahawks 6

Third quarter recap: Packers take control

The Packers scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead going into the fourth quarter. Mike Daniels’ strip sack set up Ty Montgomery’s 6-yard touchdown, and Aaron Rodgers caught the Seahawks with 12 men on the field for a 32-yard score to Jordy Nelson on a free play. The Packers now lead in the box score and on the scoreboard. It’s 14-6 Packers with 15 minutes left.

SCORING PLAY: Rodgers does it again

The master of the free play strikes again. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers caught the Seahawks with 12 men on the field with a quick huddle and snap, and he used the free play to find Jordy Nelson for a 32-yard touchdown. Nelson lined up in the slot and beat the coverage of linebacker Bobby Wagner, and Rodgers threw a perfect pass. Even Earl Thomas couldn’t range over and stop it. Packers 14, Seahawks 6

SCORING PLAY: Walsh cuts its the lead

Russell Wilson led a laborious, 11-play drive that ended in another Blair Walsh field goal. The Seahawks converted on a pair of third downs before coming up short inside the 10-yard line. Mike Daniels and Nick Perry were monsters on the drive for the Packers defense. Packers 7, Seahawks 3

SCORING PLAY: Montgomery gives Packers the lead

One play after Mike Daniels’ strip sack, Packers running back Ty Montgomery put Green Bay on the scoreboard for the first time in 2017. He powered in from six yards out, following the blocks of center Corey Linsley and tight end Martellus Bennett. Montgomery then provided the first Lambeau Leap of the season. Packers 7, Seahawks 3.

BIG PLAY: Daniels forces Wilson fumble

Mike Daniels provided the spark the Packers desperately needed, strip-sacking Russell Wilson. Kyler Fackrell recovered the fumble, setting up Green Bay inside the 10-yard line. Ty Montgomery punched in the score one play later (see: above).

Ugly first half ends scoreless for Packers

The Packers dominated for stretches in the first half, especially on defense, but they’ll go into the locker room trailing, 3-0. The Seahawks produced an interception and four sacks on Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson put together two big plays late in the second quarter to set up a short field goal as time expired. The Packers have the edge in total yards, first downs and time of possession, but the Seahawks lead. It was an ugly first 30 minutes for the Packers offense.

SCORING PLAY: Blair Walsh gives Seattle the lead

A 34-yard completion to Doug Baldwin and a 29-yard scramble from Russell Wilson set up Blair Walsh’s 33-yard field goal with no time remaining. The Packers called timeouts early in the drive, hoping to get the ball back with time to score before the half. Instead, the Seahawks made two big plays and broke the tie. Seahawks 3, Packers 0

Jordy reaches milestone

Jordy Nelson caught his 500th career pass on a short gain early in the second quarter. He’s only the fourth receiver in franchise history to reach the milestone. The only others: Donald Driver, Sterling Sharpe and James Lofton.

First quarter recap: Packers defense looks strong

Aaron Rodgers’ first interception of the 2017 season ended a promising early drive, but the story of the first quarter was the Packers defense. The Seahawks managed just three yards on nine plays without a first down. The game remains tied at zero.

Rodgers picked on first drive

A promising first drive came to a sudden end when Seahawks rookie Nazair Adams intercepted Aaron Rodgers. He returned the pick for a touchdown, but a block in the back penalty negated the score. Jeremy Lane, the Seahawks starting cornerback, was ejected for throwing a punch. Interesting start to 2017 at Lambeau.

Packers defense passes first test

The Packers won the toss and deferred, putting the defense on the field to start the 2017 season. The Seahawks went three-and-out, thanks to big plays from Nick Perry (first down pressure, third down sack) and Davon House (second down TFL).

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is the headliner on the inactive list. Second-year tackle Kyle Murphy will start in his place. Newcomer Quinton Dial is also inactive.

Good afternoon from Lambeau Field. It’s a beautiful early September day in Green Bay, providing the perfect setting for a big-time showdown between two of the most talented teams in the NFC. Inactives will be out in roughly an hour. Offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga is not expected to play.
